The six inches that decide everything

One dark indicator lamp, two possible causes

Both housings carry a status lamp, and the useful reading is which lamp is out. A dark receiver with a lit sender points at the wiring: bell wire stapled through its insulation, a splice greened by humidity, or a screw terminal backed out at the motor head. A flickering receiver with a solid sender is nearly always aim, and aim is corrected by squaring the bracket rather than bending the arm. Rodent damage behind a wall-mounted freezer is common enough in older garages to be worth a flashlight before parts are ordered.

What a finished sensor repair looks like

The brackets get set to a measured height, the wire gets run and secured so a car door cannot catch it, and the lenses get wiped dry rather than cleaned with solvent. Then the pair is proved twice, once by breaking the beam with a broom handle mid-travel and once with the door closing normally. If the head still balks with a clear beam and healthy lamps, the fault has moved to the logic board or the limits, which is opener repair territory, and a door that reaches the slab and rebounds belongs on the will not close page instead.
