A door sitting crooked in its opening has lost the geometry that shares several hundred pounds between two sides. In this part of the Metroplex the cause is often the ground under the slab rather than anything a driver did.

Six boxes, about thirty seconds. You pick when to be called back, and that is when the phone rings.
Or call (214) 817-0539Whatever cable and rollers remain engaged are all that hold a derailed door up, and none of that arrangement is stable. Pressing the button again to see how bad it is can turn one corner out of the rail into a door lying across a hood. Switch the opener off at the receptacle, clear the bay, and do not lever anything back with a pry bar. Loose cable coiled at a jamb, one corner noticeably low, or a roller sitting outside the rail all mean the load has moved somewhere it was not designed to go.
A cable can unspool from its drum. Each lift cable anchors at the bottom bracket and winds onto a grooved drum at the end of the torsion shaft, and when a spring lets go the door drops hard enough to jump those grooves. That side then has no lift at all and the leaf racks in the opening.
A roller can quit turning. Nylon wheels get brittle and crack, and steel ones seize once the bearings dry and dust packs in, after which the wheel slides instead of rolling and climbs out at the curve where vertical track turns horizontal.
Third, the track itself can move. A bumper touching the vertical rail at the jamb shifts it a quarter inch, which is plenty for a roller to pop out at the same height on every trip until somebody finds the bend.
This corner of Dallas and Denton counties sits on the shrink-swell clay the Blackland Prairie is known for. The federal soil description for the Houston Black series records high shrink-swell potential, with cracks half an inch to four inches wide at a depth of a foot during dry spells, staying open for 90 to 150 cumulative days in most years. Ground that opens and closes on that scale carries slabs and framing with it. A garage opening that has racked even slightly holds one vertical track out of plumb, and the door then binds at the same point every cycle. Nobody calls in a panic about that one. There was no bang and no impact, just a door that has been rubbing in the same spot for two summers and a roller that is now half worn away on one side.
These are two separate findings and they should be written up separately. The industry's guidance for building occupants sets out a list. Check jambs and header attachment, track fasteners and alignment, rollers sitting in the track without tension, brackets and hinges, cables for slack, and the sections from inside and out for cracks, dents and buckling. It flags the area around end-hardware fasteners in particular, because damage there can indicate structural damage rather than a mark. Its plainest line is the useful one: any deformation of panels, track or hardware can make a door questionable as to whether it can operate. The companion sheet for technicians goes a step further and says that where stress or fatigue has compromised the door's performance, the owner should be advised to forward the written assessment to their insurance company.
The door gets clamped below its lowest roller and blocked so it cannot travel, and stored load is released in the right order before anything is moved. Sections come back into line one at a time. Cracked rollers and torn hinges get replaced instead of persuaded back into shape, and a deformed length of rail is renewed rather than hammered flat. The pair of cables goes back onto the drums at equal tension, so both sides start and finish their travel together. The counterbalance gets checked at the same time, since a broken spring is often the reason the door came out rather than a coincidence. Then the door is cycled by hand with the operator still disconnected, because a remaining pinch in the rail will chew up the new parts inside a month.

Call (214) 817-0539Carrollton reports that the May 28, 2024 storm brought straight-line winds of 80 to 95 mph and affected all 37.1 square miles of the city.
Why it matters: After a major storm, a garage-door inspection should look past cosmetic dents to tracks, hinges, struts and rollers that may have been pushed out of alignment.

The National Weather Service count for DFW Airport lists 55 days at or above 100 degrees in 2023, 21 of them consecutive.
Why it matters: Heat that sustained ages opener boards, plastic sensor brackets and vinyl seals faster than the door hardware itself.

DFW Airport held at or below freezing for 139 consecutive hours in February 2021 and bottomed at 2 degrees below zero on February 16.
Why it matters: Cold stiffens grease and freezes bottom gaskets to the slab, so doors stall short of the closing limit.
